Hello everyone!
Today I would like to talk about one of my favourite paintings!! Since high school, I have had a big passion for art history, and I really loved many pieces of art from different periods of time, but one of my favourite styles is, definitely, the Impressionism! I just love the peacefulness, serenity, and beauty of masters like Manet, Monet, Pissarro, Cezzane, etc.
But one of my recent favourite pieces of art is definitely the one that I saw at Bristol Museum and Art Gallery, a painting by Gustave Courbet. Such a beautiful and emotional artwork!!! It's a seascape with a stormy sea in what looks like a cloudy day, but it's, in fact, a place beyon time and places. In pictures, the painting is almost flat and ordinary, but when you are there in front of the painting, it's just breathtaking! Seeing the shades of blue and violet, the strong contrast between the warm ochre and the cold turquoise, the violence and spontaneity of the line, it's like Courbet anticipated the impressionist spirit even though Courbet was a realist painter.
When I first saw the masterpiece I was speechless, I felt like there was no time or space in the room. There was no air left! I was in a void where nothing existed and everything existed at the same time! I didn't feel my material body anymore! I just stayed there like time stopped, and I was out of my body for a few seconds, like you are completely alone in this world, and there is nothing else left you're greater then time and space! After that, I felt the need to get closer, I wanted to touch the canvas! And then I saw the title "Eternity" such a great word for it! So I really felt what the painter wanted to express with it, and maybe what he felt on a cloudy day along the seaside! Such an inspiring painting for me! I would definitely want to make a set starting from "Eternity".
It was a powerful experience for me and now, every single time, I see the painting I remember of my first journey here in Bristol, and my first impression about this beautiful city, my first trip to Bristol feelt exactly like the painting "Eternity", but that's a story for another time! How beautiful and interesting is how we associate memories with the art that we see or hear. How our emotions connect everything!
Let me know in the comments what is your favourite painting at the moment! What do you remember about, what inspires you for?
Have a beautiful and inspirational day ahead!
